Are You Burned Out? Take the Free Burnout Quiz
You used to love your job. Or at least, you used to feel something when the alarm went off on Monday morning. Now there's a flatness, a heaviness that coffee can't cut through. If any of that sounds familiar, you're not alone, and you're not lazy. You might be burned out.
In May 2019, the World Health Organization officially classified burnout in the ICD-11 as an occupational phenomenon resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed. The gold standard for measuring burnout is the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), developed by psychologist Christina Maslach and Susan Jackson at UC Berkeley in 1981.
This quiz draws on the three core dimensions of the MBI — emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and reduced personal accomplishment — to evaluate where you currently fall on the burnout spectrum. Answer based on how you've genuinely felt over the past two to four weeks.
